CONGRATULATIONS to everyone that participated in the B Fit 4 Shaw 2012 City Walk!
WOW! What an amazing day we had. After the sweltering conditions of the 2011 event, we were lucky enough to land the perfect weather in 2012. Clear blue skies, a refreshing ocean breeze and a crystal clear bay to walk besides. What better way to spend your Saturday!!
At 7am on Saturday 18th February 115 nervous and excited walkers began the epic walk city bound to raise much needed funds for Oxfam Trailwalker. 32 walkers set out for the 17km ‘stroll’, 7 aimed for the 27km ‘Half’, 11 hoped to reach 37km ‘Adventure’ while a whopping 65 dedicated their entire day in hopes of reaching the Spirit of Tassie, Port Melbourne 47km later. (‘The Full’)
An amazing time was had by all, walking and chatting, meeting new people and helping to encourage friends and family. The buzz on the day was incredible, and the sea of pink and black that lined the path was an obvious statement for a passersby.
The support crew who volunteered to help at drink stations had a great time on the day.
Susan with her trophies and cold water, David and Sharon with the lolly lovers dream, Clare and Robert with the icy poles, Thomas and Alan with the honey shots and of course Kylie with her Smith’s Chips. This created some variety for the day, and something to look forward to as the day got longer and longer.
A special mention must be made- to Jules and her cape, David and the budgie smugglers and Bob and Holly with your wig and grass skirts.
The atmosphere at the finish line was electric. Many who finished chose to stay around and wait for others to finish, cheering each person across the line.
The first group to arrive at Port Melbourne covered the 47km course in 7hrs 15mins. The last walker crossed the line in 11hrs, all well within the 12hr cut of time. The youngest walker was Mitch Pearson and the oldest Wayne Threfall. Congratulations to both- they showed that you are never too old or young to get out and have a fun day exercising!
27 amazing people made the successful journey and completed 17kms. Well done to each and every one of those 27 finishers. For many that was the furthest they had ever walked. So a big congratulations to them all!
Congratulations to all those who achieve their goal (and those who decided on the day to extend). Walking 27, 37 or 47kms is a major achievement!
Congratulations to our prize winners, drawn during the event briefing! I hope you enjoy your goodies. Remember to take advantage of the goodies and offers in your show bags. If there was anyone that missed out, please let me know and we will get one out to you.
As with all events, they don’t just run themselves. Many, many hours are spent planning, preparing, revising, tweaking, changing, changing again, and consulting with councils and insurance providers!
At B Fit 4 Shaw I am lucky enough to have the most amazing crew to support me- Jarrod, Ron, Jules, Nigel, Kylie, Michael, Clare Tina, Tim, Kirrily and Vaughn.
Thank you for your care, hard work and dedication.
Plans are already underway for B Fit 4 Shaw city walk 2013. It will be bigger and better!!
